I’ve just installed Peppermint 3 on a spare drive for experimental purposes and everything went perfect untill I added a new user then rebooted and was faced with this message on the screen
Could not write bytes: Broken pipe
* stopping save kernel message
*stopping system v runlevel compatability
270958887 cifs ufs security mechanism requested
the default security mechanism will be upgraded from ntlm to ntlmv2 in lernel release 3.3
I’ve tried running all the options in recovery mode they all end in errors of some kind and I’ve tried updating grub and booting from the PM3 drive on the boot menu but I just keep getting the same error.
Well we could try to troubleshoot it, but there’s no real info on where the broken pipe is … unless it’s something in cifs, have you added any cifs mounts to fstab ?

I did add my network shares (NAS) to /etc/fstab but i rebooted imediately after doing that and it booted then ok, I could try removing these entries and seeing if it will boot if you think it’s worthwhile ?
Ok I checked the hard drive and it reported 3 damaged sectors so possibly that was the problem, unfortunately I don’t have another drive so I’ve reinstalled and everything’s is working fine although my hearts in my mouth when I reboot but it seems ok for now so I’ll mark this solved
