I’ve installed (well, tried to) and it shows my system stats and not the weather for my given location, also I typed in the commands to edit the files it says to edit and they were blank!!!
For the weather script, you need to register on http://weather.com to get a Partner ID and a License Key, and then add those to the conky script.
This is one of my petty hates about this type of conky script because I didn’t get my Partner ID or Lincese key from them. Currently someone I know is trying to convert the weather.com script to accuweather.com which is easier and better to use.
If you need anymore conky script be sure to let me know, as I run a lot of them.
I never have liked GKrellM, it’s not as configurable as Conky is. Conky is able to use transparency and be configured the way I want. Never have seen that with GKrellM.
GKrellM is just as configurable if you want to get your hands dirty and build/modify a theme, or just find one that someone else has made, yet easier to use for its GUI … and it DOES support transparency, I’m using a transparent theme right now.
And it can display the monitors from other computers on the network … or indeed across the interweb.
And, for the weather plugin, you just install it from the repos, , put a tick in a box to enable it, get a 4 digit code for your local weather station from a website it gives you and address for and enter it in the GUI … done.
[EDIT]
Got as far as step 4, do all 3 archives need to be unpacked into ‘home’ folder on their own and not inside one of them that have just been unpacked?
See that’s the only thing about GKrellM. It’s all in one place. I don’t want my stuff all in one place. I like mine to be like widgets if you like. So I can move 'em about, toy with their sizes etc. Basically functionality like Rainmeter for Windoze (oh how I miss Rainmeter :().
@pooky did you download the .deb or the .tar-gz for conky-Forecast?
So what’s to stop you running multiple instances displaying different things … and you can move them to wherever you want ?
You can resize the width from the GUI, and if you really wanted to you could resize the height of the displayed krells in the theme.
It doesn’t HAVE to display everything in one place … YOU decide what is displayed in each instance, and can set them as “sticky” or not
But yup Conky is configurable too … just a pain in the a**, and probably beyond some/most beginners … and AFAIK lacking the ability to monitor other PC’s from one place.
Agreed that Conky is a PITA to configure, but I really don’t mind the ability to not be able to monitor other PC’s from one place, since I only ever monitor my own. If GKrellM is like Conky, can I do this: (see attachment)
Once you’ve downloaded the zip file, extract it. Then goto your home folder and create a folder called, .conky
After you make it, hit ctrl+h to show the hidden folders. Open a new window/tab to wherever you extracted the folder I gave you and copy the ".conkyForecast.config ; .conkyrc ; .vreme.templete & .images from there into the .conky folder. (you’ll need to hit ctrl+h again)
a) there are 3 errors in that .conkyrc file that you’ve put in your dropbox … they are talked about on the Webupd8 site
b) if you are using Gnome Shell … you need to change the window type/class too.
I’ve put a working (fixed for Gnome 3) .conkyrc in my dropbox here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11876059/conkyrc.tar.gz
that is also set to Derby (UKXX0040) … and I’ve moved it to the middle of MY screen.
if you need to adjust the window position horizontally, play with the line:
gap_x 336
Didn’t work…

I tried it with just the files you said moved and then moved the rest into that folder and still not worked.
