I am trying to transfer files onto an external HD formatted to EXT4.
The snag is, I am trying to get the files from a Win7 laptop… BUT I am using ext4read, well… trying to.
The problem is, it WONT WORK. I have changed it to run as Administrator and when I select the external HD it says its not formatted.
What am I doing wrong???

I’ve even tried connecting it to my router but I cant even make it visible on the network :o ??? >:(
Paragon Extfs for Windows
That looks like a really useful program, pity there wasn’t a similar program to read ufs in Linux
Installed and ran Paragon Extfs and this even says that the external drive needs formatting???
Why is it formatted EXT4 in the first place if it’s to be shared ?
Is it possible to copy what’s on it off to a Linux PC … format it say NTFS … then copy the stuff back ?
(or is it too large)
How big are the files you’re trying to transfer
I ask because it they’re not too big couldn’t you boot up your laptop with a live usb (with persistance) and transfer your files over directly from your Windows partition
EDIT
you could possibly plug in the external HD then transfer them straight over to it because the live session should recognise the HD if it’s formatted to ext4

That sounds a VERY good and simple solution.
I have 170Gb of files, Audiobooks on the Win7 laptop and put them there because I was running out of space on my Ubuntu PC so bought a 2Tb external Hd to connect to the router so it can be accessed on the network.

How did you format the 2Tb external HDD and how did you connect it to your router?
On my Ubuntu and I can connect it to my router via the USB port it has at the back.
