Ha, take that! Now you're one of us!

I know we are all trying to promote the use of Linux, but breaking into someones office to install it on their machine is maybe taking it a bit too far!

Or, and this is probably more plausable, someone used a LiveCD to hack the computer but forgot to take the disc out and everytime the machine boots up it runs from the CD drive first. Imagine the embarrassment of the tech support when they think everything on the hard drive has been lost… until they open the CD drive before booting. :-[

The circumstances around the mystery Linux installation are also emerging: a police source told the New York Daily News that it "appears that a campaign staffer wiped the hard drives accidentally after mistakenly inserting a Linux system disc into a Windows machine".

then telling it to install, choosing a partitioning scheme, entering account login details, etc. … yeh, done by accident, sure

But I see your point … funny if it IS just booting a LiveCD, and the HDD is untouched

I thought they were being sarcastic… no one can be stupid enough to believe that can be done by mistake can they?..

Can they??

Well, it says “New York” … so I guess these would be Americans ??

Ah yes, it makes sense now :stuck_out_tongue:

Don’t you just want to pat them on the head and tell them everything will be ok… bless.

Mmm, if you want to tell them everything will be Ok, you’ll need to either hand them a very large World Atlas, or vouchers for an Android phone … :-X

OK. This is turning into Grimm’s Fairy Tales
Very convenient story of data (evidence) disappearing, told by an ex FBI agent.

Grimm, whose 2010 fund-raising activities are reportedly under federal investigation, initially alleged that a "politically motivated" break-in had occurred, after cement bricks were thrown through his campaign windows on Sunday.

Didn’t you know? Penguins are evil…

Ahh … suddenly it’s a whole lot clearer.

I wonder if any of those illegal contributions were from a certain company that recently ironed their flag

What strikes me as funny is, if it was just that easy to walk into someone’s office, with a Linux LiveCD and then obtain that “classified” data, then surely they have to see their “encryption” sucks with it being Windows?

Maybe this’ll teach them to use Linux and harden up their security.

That’s utter bull… you cant just put a Linux install CD into the drive and ‘accidentally’ wipe the HD (as far as I know), you have to know what you’re doing. The news media really do need to get their facts right before releasing a story…

Errrr. yes you can. I know a VERY CLOSE FRIEND who did it. :-[
Who shall remain nameless!

:o Didn’t think it was THAT easy…
