Yesterday the missus tried to install some recipie/slimming program she got from ebay but it wouldn’t install because she had the wrong version of .NET Framework (it required version 2) she didn’t know what to do so she asked me could I get it working, when I checked she had version 4 (the latest version) so I uninstalled it and tried to download version 2 from a 3rd party site (stupid thing to do i know) but I did it, as it turned out the download failed although it still managed to download and install a program called "Desk 123 "and a firefox plugin called QV06.com (who knows what else), I managed to un-install Desk123 but QV06.com proved to be more stubborn as it’s not listed in the list of extensions or plugins for me to remove, spybot doesn’t find it and and AVG scan reported no viruses, and even though I set the homepage to her preferred page QV06.com dutifully loads up every time so now she has a nasty little virus that won’t go away and it’s all my fault
The point is although I’m completely to blame and I’m clearly in the doghouse, why do I feel a certain element of smugness ?
Yeah I downloaded it from Microsoft (which is what I should have done in the first place) and her program installed ok but the only way I could get rid of the plugin was to restore back to a previous date, so now all’s well or at least seems well, only time will tell
as far as being in the doghouse is concerned she could never resist my irrepressible charm for too long
And by the way you did not have to uninstall .Net v4, as it can coexist with the previous versions.
I learned that after I restored back, because v4 wouldn’t un-install so I installed v3.5 alongside it (v2 refuses to install but the program works with v3.5)
