Hey guys I have had a notification that my Chromebook is on its last update and after that some applications may not work as well, and that it might not be “secure.”

I just did a search to see what I could do about this, to extend its life as I like using it as it’s got an SSD drive and light and portable with long battery life.
The options are, continue using it ( until it has problems) and then:
- install a Linux distro
*install CloudReady
Of course another suggestion is to buy another Chromebook, but not only is this wasteful but I can’t afford it.

I was wondering if you guys could advise me on the best OS update for it ( I don’t plan to do this right away but for when I notice “security issues”).
The Chromebook is an Asus C300. The system specs are below:

CloudReady is described as being very like operating it as a Chromebook, but I’d need to use another computer if there isn’t 8 GB of space on the Chromebook to write it onto a USB stick ( I think the Asus Peppermint netbook would have the space, would need to check). I like the idea of keeping it Chromebook like OS wise, but I’m not good at putting OS onto computers and wondering if a Linux distro would be easier to put onto it? Which Linux distro would be the best?
