Problem installing gmic inThe Gimp.

After downloading gmic plugin I find that Ubuntu won’t let me install it. I get this…Error while moving “gmic_gimp”.
There was an error moving the file into /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins.
Error moving file: Permission denied

I am draging and dropping from downloads into the Gimp lib/plugins folder, it won’t let me cut and paste it either.

Any suggestions?

You are going to have to get out of the (bad) habit of downloading software from the internet, unless there is a good reason to do so.

gmic, and the gimp-gmic plugin are both available in the Ubuntu repositories… fire up Synaptic and install them from there.

and secondly, you cannot move anything outside your home folder without root permission… there are a number of ways to get root access:

a) use a command starting with sudo… as in:

sudo mv ~/gmic /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins

b) open the nautilus file manager as root:

sudo nautilus

c) install nautilus-gksu (FROM THE REPOS, in synaptic etc.)… this will give you a right-click option to “open as administrator”.

Thanks for the advice. Yes I have installed via the software update. It now works perfectly.
