Student Documentarian Looking For Help

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to discover who the big personalities in the UK open source community are so I can hopefully convince them to take part in a film I’m currently making. By this I mean anyone who has made notable contributions to the open source world, impassioned professionals and more specifically any senior employees of Linux who reside in the UK.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would say try get in touch with Mark Shuttleworth. He resides on the Isle of Man just now, and is the leader of the Ubuntu Project. However he may be hard to get a hold of, so try getting in touch with Canonical or even Redhat who manage Fedora.

If I’m understanding you correctly you’ve a bit of homework to do … “Linux” isn’t a company or corporation, though “Linux” is a registered trademark owned by Linus Torvalds, and administered by the Linux Foundation.

“Linux” has no employees … thought there are companies that build their “Distributions” around the Linux kernel, some of which actively contribute to the kernel and surrounding tools and applications.

Sorry to say this, but I figure you need to research the subject a little before approaching anyone.

Thanks for pointing out my mistake. The film isn’t really about open source software and will only feature in a short segment so I haven’t got a complete understanding of it yet. But thanks again for the heads up and for all your suggestions, will probably save further embarrassment down the line lol.

As far as Canonical/Ubuntu goes (as suggested by BkS), you could try getting in touch with Jono Bacon:

Ubuntu Community Manager at Canonical … so I reckon this probably falls under his job description

Is the documentary segment about Linux and Linux based distributions, or open source as a whole ?
